A planet, our Earth
With the Holidays here and the season of giving, maybe frivolously, it had me thinking again this year, “why don’t I do something about how I feel?” We take care of ourselves, right? Or maybe you are still working on that. We make sure we are physically active, eat mindfully and rest up; doing our part in bettering ourselves. How much time do you spend doing the same thought process for your Earth? Maybe a little? Not at all?
What we eat and how we decide to take care of ourselves and live our lives has an impact on our Earth. Where we buy our things from and what they are made of, the plastic we use, the cleaning products we use in our homes; all have a large impact on our Earth’s happiness. It can be overwhelming if you try to make so many changes right away and might result in you going back to old, unhealthy, habits. If you are serious about the changes you would like to make for yourself, family and home then start somewhere! Here are some of my favorite simple ways to get started.
No more plastic bags or plastic products! Easy! Use reusable shopping bags and reusable produce bags. Get rid of plastic wrap and zip locks, use beeswax wraps that can be washed in cold water and reused for a year! Then can be recycled. There are also reusable non-toxic snack bags and storage bag options as well. All great options for our own health and for our Earth!
Shop Locally! Head down to your local community garden, local market, or your own backyard, to gather up some fresh food options. Just buy what you need, have a plan so that you don’t have any waste, if you do, compost! Try to shop locally in general as well, these business already had their inventory shipped in or they picked it up themselves, buy what they already put resources into for their own community.
Use what you have! A huge impact, reducing the waste our household puts out. We feel a need to constantly replace items. There are fun and creative ways to reuse what you already have. Patching holes in clothing, repainting furniture , making lunch bags for the kids or cleaning cloths for the house… The list goes on, what you can do with items instead of putting them in the garbage can is extensive. I have to say it, “Google it”. Chances are someone has come up with an idea for reusing the same item or something similar.
These are just a few ideas, the list goes on. Don’t feel overwhelmed, start somewhere and make changes once a month or once a week. I love my Earth and I thankful I am here, let’s show some respect and love for the place we call home.
Ciao for now, C
