Simplify Your Life

Sierra Valley in Sierra County

Like so many ads I see now for nearly anything, this is not a “quick way to happiness” or “5 ways to be more zen” way of life. This is a way of life that you practice everyday until it is so natural you do not think about purposely trying anymore. Then you incorporate another aspect and keep growing!

Simplifying a life takes time and you are never actually done. Building habits is how our brain gets better at anything we do. Whether a healthy habit or an unhealthy habit, we will learn to be better at whatever we chose to do. We can get better at a healthy or unhealthy habit- we get to choose! What a lovely idea, we get to choose how we live?! In a consumer driven society, we were either raised to believe or feel pressures by media, to buy, buy and buy more things! Clothes, food, decor… the list goes on. There is also something called, “Emotional Spending”. Do you stop and ask yourself, “why do I feel that I need this?” Becoming more in touch with who we are and what our needs/wants are, we can make better decisions for ourselves. Some of this work needs to be be guided by a licensed therapist and there is absolutely no shame in seeking help for yourself, for any stage of your life! Yes, if you can believe it, the different traumas in our lives can spill over to every aspect of our being, including our living space. Living a life more simply includes paying more attention to what we eat, where that food comes from, what is in it, what we buy, why we buy it, what we do with our free time and our relationships with others and ourselves. Every moment we get to live is a true gift to be thankful for. So, how are we spending that time?

Making the intention to simplify my life has been a journey that has shaped me into a better version of myself. A self I am proud of, a self that has paved my own path in different directions. Weaving through towns, forests, mountains and different communities, I have devoted my life to my freedom. Some days prove to teach in louder ways than others, but coming back to my intention and purpose of life, grounds me. Sitting quietly with no distractions other than the breeze in the air or hawk soaring above me, allows me the space and time to reflect- on the good, bad and unknown of my future on this beautiful planet.

Thank you Mother Earth and those who choose to read and possibly understand the words I choose to share.
